late 1800's BUCKINGHAM GREENHOUSE cashier window for sale in Evanston, Illinois

$450

Though now converted to a uniquely historic condo property, Chicago's 19th century Buckingham Greenhouse at 745 W. Buckingham Place was built by florist and nurseryman George Wittbold, previously a gardener to Kaiser Wilhelm II and the Royal Botanic Garden in Germany. He left Hanover for Chicago in 1857 at age 25 and eventually built his block long nursery of greenhouses between Halsted and Broadway with 70,000 sq ft of glass. He later built his second plot of greenhouses on 50 acres in Edgebrook, also with 70,000 sq ft of glass.
This original cashier window from The Buckingham Greenhouse still is in solid condition with all original hardwood, iron and glass. In it's final years there through the 1980's it was kept safe as The Greenhouse on Buckingham, and an 8 inch long crack in glass (upper corner) has since been repaired. One side of this original glass is patterned, while the other side is smooth. See photos of both sides. Each side plays with light & shadow differently.
Overall dimensions of the hardwood are 36 1/2" x 22 1/2" x 3/4". The iron verticals are 5/16" x 5/16". $450 or Best Offer, please.
